The purpose of the Missionaries' Scholarship is to cover the expenses necessary for the formation of missionaries who will work across the diverse continents. Particularly, the Organization wants to cover the expenses of those coming from Latin American countries, Africa, Asia, and Eastern Europe. All of these upon the completion of their education will dedicate their lives to helping others, educating, and directing schools and missionary centres.
The Legion of Christ is a religious congregation of pontifical right, founded in 1941. Its mission is to extend the Kingdom of Christ in society according to the requirements of Christian justice and charity, and in close collaboration with the bishops and the pastoral plans of each diocese. Today the Legion has over 800 priests and 2,500 major and minor seminarians, with houses in 22 countries.
The Nando Peretti Foundation has awarded a grant to cover expenses for university studies at the Pontifical University Regina Apostolorum, lodging, board, conferences, transport, and health-care.
This project received further funding by the NPF in 2013, for three missionaries.
The three missionaries involved in this project now, are attending the last year of the theological studies and after they will be ordained priests. During this period of study, all the students, as this three missionaries, receive everything is necessary to give them a spiritual, human and intellectual formation. The three missionaries study and live in a Center of Superior Study settled near the Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum, in Rome (Via degli Aldobrandeschi, 190) and for each student there is a room furnished with everything is necessary for the everyday life, so, for each missionary, the Congregation must assign a part of the whole costs for the water, the light, the heating and all that goods useful to studying. All the missionaries need to study and sustain exams to pass each year of university but not only because the preparation of their life is based on the Community roles: reason why other tasks they have to reach aren’t only individual but community based too. This is very important to give them a human formation. Obviously, missionaries have as center of their life the faith and the prayer, reason why they devote part of their day life going to the church and sometimes to the Vatican or to the church of Rome helping other priest in the parish activity or complying other tasks gived to them by the Superior Fathers that follows them in every steps of their community life. This point, otherwise, should be very important to give them a spiritual formation. All these aspects of the missionaries’ life are organized and structured to grow up a person able to meet the challenges presented by the modern society, increasingly characterized by a lack of values and more and more prone to rapid changes. So a type of society that needs a new kind of religious men prepared to give a valid response to the challenges of tomorrow.
