The Rome-based Compassion and Care Center - Giamzé ta chiong was created in 2009 as a Tibetan Dharma Center (Institute of Buddhist studies and practice), directly connected with the Gaden Jangtse Monastery in Karnataka, South India. The name "Compassion and Care Center" was personally chosen by the H.H. the Dalai Lama, following the request of Gaden Jangte Monastery's Ven. Abbot. The Center was created in the view to offering Tibetan residents in Rome Dharma teachings, as well as organizing meditation and prayer sessions for deepening the understanding of Tibetan Buddhist philosophy and culture. Among the Center's goals, was also a focus on solidarity projects, aimed at supporting and sustaining to those in need (e.g. Tibetan children and people escaped from Tibet, sick people, persons with terminal diseases like SLA, etc.).

The Dharma Center was run and organized by three Rome-based Tibetan Lamas of Gaden Jangtse Monastery supervised by Geshe Lobsang Sherab, Lama member of the Executive Board. The Lamas live in the Dharma Center, welcome its Members, coordinate all the meetings, the Dharma teachings and all the activities related to the Center.

In view of the difficult financial situation of the newly created Dharma Center in Rome, the Monks of Gaden Jangtse Monastery asked the Nando Peretti Foundation for help. In late 2009, a grant was awarded by NPF in order to cover the one-year rent for the flat in Rome where the Center was located, as well as for the gas, power, water consumption rates, so as to allow the Center to become financially independent within a year.

This project received the fourth grant from the Nando and Elsa Peretti Foundation in 2016.
