2003 Project Activities
Three demonstration projects have been selected across Eastern Europe.Together with fish-pond managers for waterbirds in Romania. The project aims at reducing the negative impact of fish farming on birds, developing, with the fish farmers appropriate management.
The involvement of local people is the main tool for achieving conservation in the field and the three project use this approach in three different ways.
Involving local stakeholders in the protection of Senne, Slovakia. The project aims at developing and carrying out appropriate management of wet meadows which are important breeding and roosting sites for herons, ducks, waders, gulls and terns, promoting at local level the Nature Reserve.
Development of land stewardship at the Gediz Deltasi, Turkey. The project aims at increasing the awareness and therefore promoting the conservation of the Gediz Delta, which is threatened by the expansion of the city of Izmir and the lack of awareness on the importance of the wetland.
