September 2009 to December 2009 Interim Report II

- 9 - 11 October: meeting with all regional and provincial directors, and with sports coordinators in Rome. There were discussed the unified sports guidelines, and some aspects of the future events, like European Basketball Week, Summer and Winter national games, and European Football Week.
- 12 - 14 October: meeting with coordinators of physical education in Rome. The aim was to involve them in the School Project, that pursues the objective of promoting and educating young people to know the different abilities and to highlight them as a resources for society. This project is connected with Unified Sports project, whose aim is to create Special Olympics teams in schools, involving players with and without intellectual disabilities, playing together. For this project were given to each coordinator unified sports guidelines. Other aspect of the meeting was connected to the Volunteer project: the aim is to involve students also as volunteers in our events.
- 23 November: press conference of European Basketball Week, hosted by Palazzo del Coni - Foro Italico in Rome. Guests: Dino Meneghin, former basketball player and President of Italian Basketball Federation, Marco Bonamico, President of Lega2, Antonello Riva, former basketball player and general manager of Prima Veroli, Gigi Datome and Angelo Gigli, players of Lottomatica Roma and Italian team, Jimmy Ghione, from TV show Striscia La Notizia, Alessandro Ppalazzotti, Vice President of Special Olympics Italy and Special Olympics Athletes and partners. European basketball Week was also presented by Trio Medusa from Radio Deejay with an interview with Dino Meneghin.

- 28 November - 6 December: European Basketball Week. It's a big event of basketball organized every year in Italy and in other 35 countries across Europe and Eurasia. In Europe this event has the patronage of FIBA Europe and Euroleague Basketball. In Italy has the patronage of Italian Basketball Federation (F.I.P), Lega Basket A, Lega 2, Lega Basket Femminile and GIBA. More than 4000 athletes were involved in different cities:
- 28 November, Rome, unified basketball tournament at Liceo E. Majorana.
- 28 November - 3 December, Gela, sports activities preparatory for unified basketball between school teams and basketball tournament between Special Olympics teams, at Pala Provincia of Gela.
- 28 November, Seveso, exhibition of 2 Special Olympics teams during Serie A match of wheelchair basketball between Aurora Basket VS Porto Torres.
- 29 November, Lodi, exhibition match of Special Olympics teams during Lega2 match between U.C.C. Assigeco VS Fastwebnet Casale Monferrato.
- 30 November, La Spezia, sports activities preparatory for unified basketball between school teams and basketball tournament between Special Olympics teams, at Palzzetto dello Sport of La Spezia.
- 1 December, Osimo, sports activities preparatory for unified basketball between school teams at Palabaldinelli.

- 1 December, Rieti, sports activities preparatory for unified basketball between school teams at Palaleoni.

Special events related to European Basketball WeeK:
- partnership with Euroleague: on November 12 and November 26, during Euroleague matches between Lottomatica Roma vs. Maccabi Electra, Armani Jeans Milano vs. BC Khimki, Montepaschi Siena vs. Regal FCB, the teams enter the ground with Special Olympics Athletes and banners.
- 24 November - 1 December: ebay auction with tshirts and balls of Serie A and Lega 2 professional teams.
