Interim report (Timeline of the present activity report: January - July 2012)
A specific intervention was made on delayed speech disorder inserted in a more general illness affecting the patient's motor skills. It was made use of tools suitable to manipulation and symbolic play as well as psychomotor trails in order to make basic body schemes automatic. Angelo Azzurro also treated patients suffering from specific learning disorders affecting the language and math-logic areas. The language area was investigated both in the understanding and the production. The rehabilitation made use of interactive teaching tools, like some specific software appropriate for the children's mental and chronological ages. The rehabilitation work was made intensive through speech therapy sessions twice a week when the disorders appeared to be serious. Moreover, the patients were given structural tasks to be done at home, in order not to interrupt the exercise in progress that is to be considered an essential condition to make rehabilitation successful. Angelo Azzurro specifically worked on dysgraphic and dysorthographic disorders by means of correction and facilitation support tools and printed handouts with personalized workbooks. The little patients did some graphic work and symbolic drawing as well as structural manipulation activities , the latter concerning children in Year 3,4,5 of the primary school with past persistent problems concerning their motor coordination skills.
