The project consists in the recording of a musical CD for Viola d'Amore alone, without any accompaniment.
The Musicangelica Association has the purpose of developing and increasing cultural activities concerning music, especially in the field of early music. Specific interest is given in researching and performing baroque and classical music for Violin and Viola d'Amore.
In the past months Musicangelica has been working in important project, first of all the Scarlatti recording project sponsored by the Nando Peretti Foundation. Another important project is the catalogue and study of the Antonio D'Elia archive of hundreds of unpublished music manuscripts of the twentieth century.
Musicangelica sustain also the Duo B.L.U. Ensemble, composed by Valerio Losito (Violin and Viola d'Amore) and Simone Vallerotonda (Theorbo and Baroque Guitar), which performs early music in Italy and abroad (Rome, Palazzo Altemps, Radio Vaticana, Archivio di Stato, Utrecht Early Music Festival, Festival Flatus de Sion etc.)
The title of this recording project was inspired by a German eighteenth century manuscript preserved in the National Saxony Library of Dresden, which contains a music for Viola d'Amore alone. There are other musical pieces for Viola d'Amore alone, written between XVII and XVIII century: this is a beautiful and refined music. In these pieces the Viola d'Amore can shine in developing all his sound possibilities, and the most of this pieces are not recorded yet.
An authoritative recording of solo pieces for Viola d'Amore is missing, and the expected goal of this project will be also to increase the common knowledge of Viola d'Amore as instrument, and of this music in particular.
The recording of the CD will start in November 2011. After editing, mixing and mastering (this will take some months) the finished CD is expected to be published in summer-early autumn 2012, according to the recording label timetable.
This project, which received a grant from the Nando Pereti Foundation, will be submitted to the recording label Brilliant Classics, world leader in classical music who has already published the recording of Domenico Scarlatti's Viola d'Amore sonatas, made in February 2011 and sponsored by the Nando Peretti Foundation.
