Rome Chamber Music Festival’s Master Class Educational Program for Young Artists 17 to 25 Years Old

Project location: Italy, Rome
Project start date: March 2013 - Project end date: August 2013
Project number: 2012-089
Beneficiary: Rome Chamber Music Festival, Inc

The master class program seeks to further the education and performance experience of the students whereby giving them practical experience for their professional aspirations.

The Festival strives to pay for transportation, lodging, artist instructors, rehearsal space, and some meals and incidentals for the American and European students who are invited to attend the master class program.

Students are selected for the master class program by audition. While all of the participants are talented and enthusiastic, their performing experience, level of instruction, and maturity varies widely. The program seeks to not only encourage personal and professional growth through access to notable artists, but also to promote a sense of responsibility for oneself and others. Time management is paramount to handling the program's rigorous rehearsal and performance schedule and often students must overcome language barriers and cultural differences to successfully perform ensemble.
Students benefit from both individual and group instruction. Under the guidance of the artist instructors, the students take turns leading group rehearsals which create an opportunity to learn from each other and to negotiate both conflict and solidarity. Students come away from the master class program with greater confidence in their talent and ability to perform in front of a large audience. They also make vital professional contacts and have exposure to international press. Lastly, students leave the festival with new friends and a deeper respect for differing cultural identities.
The master class program begins a few days prior to the festival and runs concurrently with the festivals dates, which are June 9 to June 13, 2013. Specific sessions are based on the availability of practice spaces. We are in the process of securing rehearsal space for after which we will draft the class schedule for next year. Attached is last year's master class schedule and we expect that 2013 will be similar in scope and frequency.
The concerts will be performed at the Palazzo Barberini in Rome, Italy. The master classes will take place at the Palazzo Barberini, private homes and palazzos (Palazzo Torlonia), and other historical spaces in Rome (Palazzo Santa Chiara, Domus Talenti), Italy.

The Nando Peretti Foundation has awarded a grant to this project.
