The Nando Peretti Foundation's goals to support scientific and medical research and health programs, together with protecting human rights, especially those of children who live in situation of extreme economic and social hardship, are perfectly aligned with Operation Smile's aims.
Operation Smile's main objective is to carry out a local medical mission in Amman, Jordan, in June 2013.
Approximately one in every 700 Jordanian babies is born with a cleft lip and/or a cleft palate, and low income and less fortunate children may not receive this life-changing surgery.
Since 2000, with the support of Operation Smile, Inc. and the Ministry of Health, Operation Smile Jordan has organized medical missions to help children from Jordan and neighbouring countries. These medical missions include Jordanian and international teams of healthcare professionals who volunteer their time and talent to provide free medical and surgical care to children suffering from cleft lips, cleft palates and burns. Since 2004, more than 1700 children have received treatment.
Operation Smile Jordan is dedicated to helping Jordanian children and other children in the region. Children come from the neighbouring countries, including Palestinian children.
Operation Smile wishes to perform reconstructive surgeries on those children suffering from cleft and other facial deformities who were not operated during the latest medical mission in December 2012, and who are still waiting for treatment and care.

In collaboration with the Ministry of Health and the local health Jordan authorities, Operation Smile plans to screen around 200 patients, provide them with free medical examinations, and perform about 80 safe surgeries with the help of a team of 40 international volunteers. Its volunteers team will include plastic surgeons, anaesthesiologists, paediatricians, nurses, speech pathologists and other credentialed health professionals.
In addition, Operation Smile plans to provide training courses to local staff.

The Nando Peretti Foundation awarded a grant to this project, which will provide around 80 free surgical operations to new patients and those who are waiting since last mission.
