Seaside Summer Vacation for 20 Children Hosted in a Family House

The project had the goal to increase the mental and physical well-being of the young host of our three family homes, in terms of:

-          better temper, better emotional feelings by the young hosts, especially by who has disorder in linguistic communication;

-          improvement of breathing, especially for who depends from artificial respiration  and has serious pulmonary affections;

-          improvement of group dynamics and relations, between young hosts, voluntaries and professional staff;

-          improvement of staff dynamics and relations, between voluntaries, professionals and heads of the services.

The project consisted of a 28-day holiday period, at the seaside, in a place near Roma in Focene. All children with disabilities who live in our 3 small family homes have benefited from the project. In addition, also participated to the holiday:

·         the children of Casa Betania, a home for children without parents.

·         No. 4 ladies. (hosted in the 1 family house for ladies with children).

The holiday began on the 3d of August and lasted until the 30th of August, 2015.  

The main activities have been the following:

-          In the period March-June 2015 searching for an affordable holiday house, that was located in Focene, very near to Rome, in the north coast close to Fregene. The guest house, owned by the Carmelitane Sisters, has large rooms with private bath, without architectural feature, and it is very close to the beach. The services involve food and accommodation for the host. It is possible to get to the beach without physical barriers, and the place allows to spent time in outdoor relaxing activities.

-          In the period May - June 2015 specific training and other team building activities for the voluntaries and the professionals was performed: people raising plan and implementation, some team building sessions, case studies for the staff. At the end of the building and training period the result achieved was to have 12 voluntaries (2 more than the initial forecast) ready for the summer activities.

-          In June logistic and preparatory activities for the summer holiday were performed.

-          In July and September several daily activities were performed in the city for N. 16 children that were in vacation, attending private sportive centre in the city of Rome.

-          In august 2015, from 3d until 30th August the summer holidays took place.

-          In September 2015 several meetings to evaluate the good results of the project with the selected operators have been organized.

At the end of the activities all the expected results have been obtained. In detail the results achieved:

The people who have benefited of these summer activities in 2015 were the following:

No. 24 children (14 with serious disability, both mental and physical). Among this 24 children 20 are from 4 family houses that host children alone, and 4 are children hosted in the 1 family house together with their mother.

No. 10 operators: 2 operators for each of 5 family house

No. 16 children could attend private sportive centre in the city of Rome during the months of June, July and September.

Morever there was an improvement of group dynamics and relations, between young hosts, voluntaries and professional staff.
