Residential Facilities for Disadvantaged Families of Children with Oncologic Diseases

Project location: Italy, Rome
Project start date: September 2013 - Project end date: October 2014
Project number: 2013-036
Beneficiary: Villaggio SOS di Roma

The Rome SOS Children's Village collaborates with the Bambino Gesù Children's Hospital to provide accomodation for the families of children who are receiving treatment in the onco-haematology unit.
Families can stay for periods ranging from a few days to several months depending on the duration of their child's treatment.
Families will be accomodated in one of the houses in the Village and will have use of the outdoor amenities. The house in question has 4 double bedrooms a kitchen and a comunal lounge.
The Nando Peretti Foundation provided a grant which is equal to the annual accomodaton cost for 4 mother-child pairs. The project's goal is to address the problem of families of sick children who come from outside of Rome.

When complete, the project will enable sick children to remain close to their parents, to be sustained by their care and to face the road to recovery in the best possible way.
The accomodation will provide the children and their parents with a setting of normality and tranquility that could help towards their physical and psychological recovery.
