Supporting a Leprosy and Rehabilitation Centre

Project location: Liberia, Ganta
Project start date: July 2010 - Project end date: December 2010
Project number: 2010-12
Beneficiary: Embassy of the Sovereign Order of Malta to the Republic of Liberia

On the 17th of August 2010, in Monrovia, the Ambassador of the Sovereign Order of Malta to the Republic of Liberia, Mr. Pierluigi Nardis, has proceeded to donate to the Consolata Sisters of Ganta, who manage the Leprosy and Rehab Centre, at the Guinee boundaries, a brand new Toyota Stilux double cabin pick-up. The nuns will utilize such a vehicle not only for the ordinary necessities of the leper hospital, but even to bring help to the terminal ill persons who, rejected by their own villages, are forced to die in the forests or along the roads, very often victims of wild animals. The nuns pick up the lepers and bring them to the Centre to offer them urgent therapies and assistance.

The donation ceremony took place early in the afternoon at the presence of the Ministry of Health and Social Affaire, dr. Walter T. Gwenigale, and some members of the Parliament and from the Government.

The ceremony had been preceded, at the Apostholic Nunciature, by the celebration of the Mass and the benediction of the vehicle officiated by Mons. George Antonysamy, Apostholic Nuncio, at the presence of the Archbishop of the Diocese of Monrovia, Mons. Thomas Ziegler.
