Fundación Princesa de Girona is a Spanish non-profit organization established in 2009 with the mission of supporting young people in their personal and professional development. Through its programs and initiatives, the Foundation works across Spain to empower young people to navigate an increasingly complex and rapidly evolving world. In a context shaped by globalization and accelerating technological change, Fundación Princesa de Girona promotes initiatives that advance equal opportunities, foster social innovation, strengthen education, and support youth employment. Through these efforts, the Foundation seeks to enable younger generations to develop the skills, knowledge, and resilience needed to address present and future challenges.

To pursue its mission, Fundación Princesa de Girona implements programmes across four strategic areas: education transformation, the promotion of talent and entrepreneurship, the recognition of outstanding young leaders through its annual awards, and professional mentoring initiatives that support young people in their transition to the labour market.

Among these initiatives, Generación Girona is a community-based youth empowerment programme designed to support adolescents and young people from the most socially and economically vulnerable neighbourhoods in the city of Girona. These areas face persistent structural challenges, including deep socioeconomic inequalities, high youth unemployment, early school dropout, and limited access to opportunities for education, employment, and civic participation. The programme places particular emphasis on structurally disadvantaged groups, including second-generation migrants from Latin American and African diasporas, Roma youth, and adolescent girls, who often face intersecting barriers to opportunity and social inclusion.

Supported by the Nando and Elsa Peretti Foundation - Delegació a Catalunya (NaEPF), the initiative will run throughout 2026 and is expected to engage at least 100 young people through school-based activities, 30 participants in entrepreneurship initiatives, and 30 in well-being programmes.

Structured around five strategic lines of action, Generación Girona seeks to strengthen educational and emotional support in schools through initiatives such as music-based literacy activities, inspirational talks, academic tutoring, and sports-based workshops. The programme also promotes youth entrepreneurship and social leadership by organizing innovation challenges, participatory research activities, mentorship opportunities with local businesses, and leadership development initiatives.

In parallel, Generación Girona fosters emotional well-being and resilience, particularly among girls, through mentoring circles, empowerment workshops, and peer-support initiatives. It also encourages intercultural dialogue and civic engagement through storytelling activities, cultural exchanges, and visits to significant heritage sites such as Sant Martí Vell. Finally, the programme aims to strengthen local coordination and long-term impact by fostering an ecosystem of collaboration among foundations, schools, public institutions, and grassroots organizations.

By co-creating opportunities with and for young people, Generación Girona seeks to break cycles of exclusion, promote social cohesion, and nurture a new generation of confident, capable, and community-rooted young leaders.
